MEET JUSTIN

A neighbor first, then your Fiscal Officer

Justin Adkins is an entrepreneur and senior software engineer who has lived in Sharon Township since 2014, starting out in the unincorporated "three-streets" neighborhood.

He was appointed Fiscal Officer in November 2025 and is running for election in November 2027. Since taking office, he has more than tripled the township's interest earnings and opened its books to residents.

Justin Adkins

Who is Justin?

Justin has lived in Sharon Township since 2014, starting out on West Kanawha and now living in Worthington's Shaker Square neighborhood, near Linworth. His family's roots run much deeper. The Adkins family has called Sharon Township home since the 1960s, when Justin's great-grandparents moved to Chase Road so his grandfather could attend the Ohio State School for the Blind.

Justin graduated from Sheridan High School in rural Perry County, and those years gave him a lasting appreciation for small-town life. It's a big part of why he loves living in Sharon Township and Worthington.

After graduating, he returned to Central Ohio and began his public service career at the Ohio Department of Public Safety. Today, he is a software engineer and entrepreneur.

He has been part of the township's civic life for nearly as long as he has lived here. In 2017, he volunteered on the Township's Technology Committee, built the Township's previous website, and trained township staff to use it. He partners with American Legion Post 239, Sharon Memorial Hall, the Shaker Square Civic Association, and the Worthington Noon Lions Club on affordable technical solutions. For the Civic Association, that includes a web application that manages resident records, collects dues online, accepts donations, and produces reports for reconciliation.

Off the clock, he is a lover of The Lord of the Rings, all things politics, and his two cats, Caesar and Cleopatra.

Experience that fits the job

Justin has spent his career where money, technology, and public accountability meet.

From 2013 to 2018, he worked at the Ohio Department of Public Safety. He led multi-year rewrites of Ohio's Driver's Licensing and Dealer's Licensing systems and managed a development team. He also implemented legislation passed by the General Assembly and worked on the department's Tax Distribution System. His team's work saved taxpayers more than $1 million a year.

Since 2017, he has run MythCoders, a technology company serving local governments, businesses, and campaigns, and he has operated several other companies along the way. Handling budgets, cash flow, payroll for part-time staff, and state and federal tax filings taught him the importance of fiscal conservatism and accurate recordkeeping. He has also served as treasurer for several campaign committees, keeping them compliant with Ohio's campaign finance laws.

He has built financial software throughout his career, including modernizing an online marketplace's payment system and creating Hubble, a campaign platform with its own double-entry accounting system.

As your Fiscal Officer

On November 30, 2025, the Sharon Township Board of Trustees appointed Justin as Fiscal Officer. He is honored to serve the citizens of Sharon Township in that role and thanks the Board for the trust they have placed in him.

When he applied, Justin made several promises to the Board. He would attend every meeting and give residents easier access to township records. He also pledged not to apply for the next Trustee vacancy, if one opened, so the office would remain stable. Here is what he has delivered so far.

Stronger finances. Justin revamped the township's investment program and cash management policies, raising earned interest from about $3,000 a month to more than $10,000. He reconciled the cemetery fund for 2020 through 2025 and now releases monthly reconciliation reports for all Township accounts.

Open books. He published years of the township's historical financial data on checkbook.ohio.gov, updated the website where agendas and minutes are posted, and launched an email newsletter. Working with Trustee Farley, he created agenda packets for Trustee meetings, with resolutions published for residents to see.

Modern, secure systems. He modernized the township's technology practices, including migrating its email server and establishing a cybersecurity policy.

AS YOUR FISCAL OFFICER

Open books and records you can find

The Fiscal Officer makes sure township funds are spent as the law requires and as the trustees appropriate them, keeps fiscal controls in place, and maintains many of the township’s current and historical records. Justin’s goals for 2026 are all about making that work easier to see.
